About Page

Welcome to my portfolio. Here you’ll find a selection of my work. Explore my projects to learn more about what I do. For these projects I would describe my style as colorful and aesthetic, I have really enjoyed creating all these pieces to meet criteria but be very satisfying to look at. I think who I am as a person has been displayed in different ways in each piece. All of my work tends to follow common color schemes that I lean towards as an individual in my personal life not just my create expression.

Artist Statement

Hi! I am Gwen Sloat. I am a 22 year old living in Austin, Texas. I currently work as a barista at Starbucks and am a full time student, currently I am a Forensic Psychology major but I am hoping to transfer into Graphic Design very soon. I have an apartment with my partner where we share two cats Frenchie who is around 5 or 6 and Fern who is around a year old. We also have an adorable puppy named Scout who is two. I love to spend my free time creating art, I have been into sketching and painting for a while. I have been really getting into digital art the past couple of years and most recently I have found a passion for animation. I also love being in nature and cooking and baking. When designing I tend to lean towards organic shapes and more earth tones color pallets, incorporating pinks and sometimes purples. For this class and these assignments specifically I have been focussing on the technical side and design elements, specifically the principles and basics. While I have been doing digital designs for some time, I have never had information about the technical side and these programs so I have been enjoying applying these basics to new programs. Outside of this class I like to create visually appealing art with a statement. I love creating art that explores the human experience and all the complexities that come with being a human, especially being alive during this time. As an artist I want to inspire people and challenge them to think differently and deeper in art and everyday life. From my art I want others to be inspired, I think art and just creating in general are so important to people well being but its often overlooked and seen more as a hobby or something for someone with “skill” or “talent” but I think art is for all and when people truly invest in their art and their creation beautiful things happen.
